Korean War Veteran Angel Segarra (Left) unwraps an old war poster he was given shortly after returning to the United States. Segarra is a member of the 65th Infantry Battalion also known as the "Borinqueneers" for their exclusively Puerto Rican members. The Korean War was the last war to have completely segregated units. After the war, the 65th was subject to court-martial for refusing to hold Hill 391, seen as a suicide mission. The commanding officers forced the men to shave their mustaches and wear signs on the uniforms saying "I am a coward". In the years after the war, 162 Puerto Ricans were arrested and 91 were found guilty and sentenced to one to 18 years in prison.

Vietnam Veteran Julio Martinez helps another member of the group wire up a generator for the annual Vietnam Veterans Association of Puerto Rico Christmas Party in Caguas, Puerto Rico on Dec. 30, 2017. The meetings are held in a two-story abandoned schoolhouse given to the association by the mayor of Caguas several years ago. The group uses brotherhood, food, and music to escape the struggles they face since leaving the service such as PTSD, and rebuilding a sense of normalcy in Puerto Rico after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
